EHS tennis teams open campaign

CLARKSBURG — The Elkins High School girls and boys tennis teams opened the season by sweeping Liberty Tuesday at the Robert C. Byrd High School courts.

Earning wins for the Lady Tigers in singles were No. 1 Macy Reckart (8-4), No. 2 Natalie Sutton (8-1), and No. 4 Sophia Putnam (8-4).

In doubles, No. 1 Reckart-Sophia Gillispie (8-4), No. 2 Sutton-Miriam Fath (8-4) and No. 3 Brooke Louk-Madeline Walls (8-3) all earned wins.

Taking victories for the EHS boys were Austin Elliott in No. 1 singles (8-1) over Isaac Ash, Aaron Elliott at No. 2 singles (8-0) over Devon Prunty and Anson Sims at No. 3 singles (8-0) over Brent Steffich.

In No. 1 doubles, Austin Elliott and Sims earned an 8-0 win, while No. 2 and No. 3 were forfeit victories.

Both Elkins teams were in action Thursday at Davis & Elkins College’s Katherine S. Thomas Tennis Center against Lincoln.
