FFRANKLIN -- Second-ranked Pendleton County broke open a close game with a third-quarter surge in claiming the Class A, Region II, Section 2 banner with a 46-32 win over Tygarts Valley on Friday night.

The Wildcats, who have won 37 straight games dating back to last season, are now 14-0 and will host East Hardy in a co-regional final on Wednesday, while the Bulldogs will venture to Tucker County.

In a low-scoring affair, Pendleton County carried an 18-16 lead into the intermission break.

Tygarts Valley got to within two, at 20-18, on a basket by Josh Bright in the third quarter but the Wildcats then embarked on an 10-2 run to move out to a 30-20 cushion after three quarters of action.

Dalton Goode's basket cut the deficit to 39-30 late in the fourth quarter.

TV came no closer, however, as Pendleton County finished the game on a 7-2 surge.

Isaiah Gardiner scored 14 points and Bailey Thompson 11 to lead Pendleton County.

Bright had a game-high 16 points for the Bulldogs, who battled Tucker County twice this season.

Goode added seven points and seven rebounds.

The Mountain Lions took an 83-76 win in overtime on March 26 in Hambleton and Tygarts Valley claimed a 54-42 verdict in Mill Creek on April 15.

The Wildcats swept their season series with East Hardy, capturing a 65-44 decision in Baker and a 64-43 victory at home.
