Tucker girls capture sectional title

HAMBLETON — Tucker County took its first step in advancing to the state tournament for the 17th straight season by defeating Union, 74-50, Thursday night in the Class A, Region II, Section 1 title game.

The Lady Mountain Lions are now 15-4. They are slated to host a co-regional final on Wednesday, but COVID-19 issues with Pocahontas County puts the contest in jeopardy.

The Lady Warriors were set to face Pendleton County this evening in the Region II, Section 2 title game but that matchup has been cancelled.

In Thursday’s contest, Tucker County stormed out to a 19-8 lead after one quarter and carried a 40-22 advantage into halftime.

The Lady Mountain Lions placed three players in double figures and were led by London Hood with 23 points, seven assists and six steals.

Kadie Colebank added 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals and Macy Helmick 12 points.

Victoria Seabolt had 17 points, Alyson Streets 12 and Olivia Bomboy and Bridgette Knapp 10 each for the Lady Tigers.
