Bridgeport and Max Harbert, who is 5-0 on the mound this season, will begin Class AAA state tournament play Friday night against Jefferson in semifinal action. The Indians won six straight titles in the Class AA ranks.
CHARLESTON -- All three state champions from 2019 will be on hand for the high school state baseball tournament set for next week at Appalachian Power Park.
No tourney was held in 2020 due to COVID-19.
In Class A, top-seed Moorefield looks for its third straight title among a field which includes Charleston Catholic, Man and Williamstown.
The Yellow Jackets (20-5) will face fourth-seed Williamstown at 5 p.m. Friday, while No. 2 Charleston Catholic and No. 3 Man square off in the second semifinal game.
Third-seed Bridgeport, which won six straight titles in Class AA, battles another baseball powerhouse Jefferson in Class AAA semifinal play on Thursday evening. Top-seed Hurricane faces fourth-seed and defending champion St. Albans at 4:30 p.m. in the first semifinal.
The Class AA pairings are No. 1 Independence vs. No. 4 North Marion at 10 a.m. Friday, followed by No. 2 Logan vs. No. 3 Herbert Hoover in the other semifinal.
The title games will all be held on Saturday, beginning with Class AAA at 10 a.m.
