Lady Bucs place ninth in state meet

CHARLESTON — The Buckhannon-Upshur girls placed ninth in the Class AAA state meet completed Saturday at University of Charleston Stadium at Laidley Field.

The Lady Bucs, who tallied 20 points, received runner-up finishes from sophomore Chloe Cale in the long jump (16-09.25 and junior Cameron Zuliani in the discus (118-07).

Cale and Zuliani also joined sophomore Dezi Pugh and junior Catherine Oliveto in placing fifth in the 4×200 in a time of 1:48.51, and the 4×400 relay of freshman Miah Reger, Oliveto, Zuliani and Pugh was fifth with an effort of 4:19.45.

Pugh placed seventh in the 400-meter dash on Friday night in a time of 1:02.19.

Jefferson captured the team title with 87 points. Morgantown (77), Wheeling Park (74), Hurricane (45) and University (40) comprised the top five.

The B-U boys were led by a second-place finish from the 4×400 relay of senior Milo Baumann, junior Sterlin Thropp and sophomores Jordan Gillum and Shawn Blandino in a time of 3:34.70.

Senior Julius Hobbs was fifth in the pole vault (12-00), Thropp was sixth (50.87) and Blandino 10th (51.67) in Friday’s 400, the 4×800 relay (Gillum, Hobbs, senior Julian Larcher and Baumann) was eighth in a time of 8:47.13 and the 4×200 relay of senior Dakota Smith, Thropp, Blandino and senior Donovan Abel 10th with an effort of 1:34.44.

Parkersburg took team honors with 110 points, followed by Wheeling Park (81), University (59), Jefferson (53) and Morgantown (36) to round out the top five.

The Bucs had 11 points to place 16th.
