East Hardy takes over top spot in Class A ratings

PARKERSBURG — Huntington, Frankfort and East Hardy set atop of their respective classes in the second WVSSAC playoff ratings released on Tuesday.

The Highlanders (4-0) are followed by Martinsburg (4-0) in Class AAA, while University (4-0) and Jefferson (4-0) are tied for third and South Charleston (3-0) is fifth.

Big 10 Conference member Bridgeport (3-0) is sixth and Buckhannon-Upshur (1-2) is tied for 24th with Washington (1-3), Ripley (1-3) and Capital (1-3).

The Bucs are currently scheduled to have a bye this week.

Keyser (2-0), Herbert Hoover (4-0), Lincoln (3-0) and Independence (2-0) and Poca (2-0), all tied for fifth, follow Frankfort in Class AA.

The Big 10’s Robert C. Byrd (2-1) is ninth, while North Marion (1-1) is tied for 14th and defending state champion Fairmont Senior (2-2) deadlocked for 16th.

Elkins (0-3) and Philip Barbour (0-2), who meet Friday night in Philippi, are tied for 32nd.

East Hardy (4-0) moved up from second in single-A after last Friday’s win over Tygarts Valley, which is tied for 26th with Magnolia and Summers County.

The Bulldogs (2-2) host No. 14 Clay-Battelle (3-1) on Friday for a key homecoming contest.

Cameron (3-0) is second in Class A, Madonna (4-0) and Doddridge County (2-0) are tied for third and Ritchie County (3-0) is fifth.

Tucker County (1-3) is tied for 31st and will venture to Berkeley Springs on Friday.
