EHS golfers third; Lady Hornets win

FAIRMONT — The Elkins High School golf team placed third Tuesday in a Big 10 Conference quad-match at the Apple Valley Golf Course.

The Tigers finished with a team-score 229 and were led by Tanner Miller (43) and Lucas D’Angelo (52).

Bridgeport won the match with a 190 and was paced by low-medalist Brayden Stutler with a 42.

East Fairmont (195) was second and Robert C. Byrd fourth (231).

Elkins will host Tygarts Valley and RCB today in the home finale at the Elks Golf Course.

EMS varsity wins

ELKINS — Elkins picked up a 2-0 (25-19, 25-21) win over Taylor County on Tuesday.

Aubrey Currence, Maddy Zirkle, Jasmin Workman and Jaden Workman led the Lady Hornets in serves, while Jayla Reams and Zirkle had three kills each.

Taylor took the JV game (18-25, 26-24, 25-13).

Peyton Wright, Gabi Mahanes and Samantha White led EMS in serves. Julie Ann Harlan added two kills.

“Both the varsity and junior varsity teams played great,” Lady Hornets coach Bobby Reams said. “I was proud of both of their efforts.”

Elkins remains home at 5:30 p.m. today to face Philippi.
