CLARKSBURG -- The Elkins High School boys and girls cross country teams placed second at the Robert C. Byrd Flying Eagles Invitational held on Saturday.
The Tigers' Charlie Smoak placed first overall in a time of 17:37.82. Teammate Luke Anger was eighth (18:37.21).
East Fairmont won the eight-team meet with 24 points. EHS had 63 points. Philip Barbour (128) was fourth and Tucker County (151) seventh.
Samantha Sproul (21:58.33) placed fifth to lead the EHS girls. Freshman Mallory Bennett (23:00.66) was the second Lady Tiger to cross the finish line in 13th.
Elkins had 77 points, while Liberty won the race with 69 points. Tucker County was fourth with 83 points and Philip Barbour sixth with 87 points.
Elkins is currently slated to host the Mountain State Forest Festival Invitational on Sept. 11.
