ELKINS -- Week 8 of the high school football season presents a challenge for Buckhannon-Upshur and Philip Barbour as both battle rated squads.
The Bucs (2-4) play host to Class AAA, No. 4 University on Friday night while the Colts (1-4) venture to Grafton, which is 16th in this week's SSAC playoff ratings with a 5-2 mark.
Elkins, meanwhile, was scheduled to travel to Class AA, No. 6 Lincoln but the contest has been canceled with no plans of being rescheduled.
The Cougars (4-1) were first in last week's ratings before falling to Robert C. Byrd last Friday night.
The Tigers are now slated to return to action Oct. 22 at Class AA, No. 14 Frankfort.
With Lincoln's loss, Herbert Hoover now sets atop of the Class AA ratings with a 7-0 mark, followed by Poca (5-0), Independence (5-0), Point Pleasant (5-1) and Nicholas County (5-1) to round out the top five.
Martinsburg and Huntington -- both 7-0 -- are tied for first in Class AAA. Jefferson (7-0), University (6-0) and Princeton (4-0) follow. Bridgeport (7-0) is sixth.
In the Class A ratings, Doddridge County (4-0) unseated East Hardy, which dropped to third. Cameron (6-0) is second, Mount View (5-1) is fourth and Moorefield (5-1), Ritchie County (5-1), James Monroe (4-1) and Williamstown (5-1) are all tied for fifth.
East Hardy (6-0) hosts Moorefield in a key matchup on Friday night.
