EHS spikers down Lady Irish to improve to 11-5

ELKINS -- The Elkins High School volleyball team improved to 11-5 on the season with a four-set win over Notre Dame Thursday night at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.

The Lady Tigers took the first two sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-11, before the Lady Irish claimed a 25-20 victory.

Elkins then closed the deal with a 25-18 victory in the fourth set.

The Lady Tigers also claimed a two-set (25-5, 25-10) win in the junior varsity match to improve to to 9-5 on the campaign.

Elkins remains home at 6 p.m. Monday to face Fairmont Senior and Grafton in a Big 10 Conference triangular matchup.

EMS boys down Barbour

ELKINS -- The Elkins Middle School boys posted an 8-2 win over Barbour County Wednesday night at River Bend Park.

Goal scorers for the Hornets (3-3-0) were Dyer Barger (2), Lincoln Fletcher (2), Nicholas Close, Kaden George, Caden Boland and Andrew Testar.

Fletcher had two assists, while Close, Boland, Tucker Cutright and Bobby Valentine had one each.

Valentine had five saves in goal and Isaac Shepler four.

Barbour County claimed a 9-0 win in the girls game.

Both Elkins squads will visit West Fairmont on Monday and then return home Tuesday to face Mountaineer, before hitting the road for matches at Robert L. Bland on Thursday.
