TENNERTON -- Daminn Cunningham scored four touchdowns as Class AAA, No. 4 University cruised to a 63-6 win over Buckhannon-Upshur Friday night at Freal "Red" Crites Memorial Stadium.
Cunningham returned two punts for scores, another on a kickoff and the final on a touchdown reception -- all being 50-plus yards.
He set the tone for his big night returning a punt 52 yards after the Bucs were forced to punt on the game's first possession.
A 43-yard touchdown pass from Chase Edwards to Sage Clawges on the Hawks' initial play from scrimmage extended the lead to 14-0 just 3 minutes into the contest.
Colin McBee followed with scoring runs of 10 and 25 yards, respectively, to extend the lead to 28-0.
Cunningham's second punt return for paydirt from 54 yards out in the second quarter and a 26-yard TD reception by Elijah Jackson from Edwards allowed University to take a 43-0 cushion into halftime.
On the second-half kickoff, Cunningham scooped up the ball at the 35-yard line and raced in for a 65-yard score.
Cunningham capped off his evening by taking a short pass from Edwards and scoring from 77 yards out.
B-U's lone scoring drive of the night followed on the strength of a 20-yard pass from Ian Donnen to freshman Carter Zuliani and a 55-yard scamper by Liam Garcia which moved the ball to the UHS 5-yard line. Two plays later, Donnen scored on a 2-yard keeper.
The Hawk reserves accounted for the final touchdowns of the night in the third quarter when Avery Dalton scooted in from 11 yards.
University improved to 7-0 and will remain on the road next Friday night at Preston.
B-U is now 2-5 and will visit Robert C. Byrd on the same evening. The Flying Eagles dropped a 21-20 decision to Fairmont Senior on Friday night.
