RCB holds off second-half surge by Lady Tigers

Hampshire too much for TV in consolation game of Hoops Classic

CLARKSBURG -- A late rally fell short for Elkins in a 41-36 loss to host Robert C. Byrd in the championship game of the City Construction Company Hoops Classic on Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Tigers (4-5) trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half before tying the contest at 26-26 after three quarters.

The Lady Flying Eagles (5-1) hit nine free throws in the final frame en route to outscoring Elkins, 15-10.

Anna Belan tossed in 18 points to pace the Lady Tigers, followed by Emerson Haddix with seven.

Avery Childers led RCB with 17 points. Carleigh Curtoz chipped in 10.

Elkins returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lincoln.

In the consolation game, Hampshire hit 11 3-pointers en route to a 64-24 win over Tygarts Valley.

Abby Cabaniss paced the Lady Bulldogs (2-5) with 10 points.

Hannah Ault led the Lady Trojans with 21 points. Izzy Blomquist added 13 and Olivia Baxter 10.

Tygarts Valley visits Tucker County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
