Players from Elkins Middle School and Buckhannon-Upshur battle for a loose rebound during varsity action Tuesday night at EMS gymnasium.
ELKINS -- The Elkins Middle School varsity girls improved to 5-0 with a 69-17 victory over Buckhannon-Upshur Tuesday evening at EMS gymnasium.
Maddy Zirkle fired in 18 points and Emma Gilbert, Braelyn Bonnell and Jaden Workman chipped in nine each for the Lady Hornets.
Taylor Feather led the Little Lady Bucs with six points.
EMS also took the JV game by a score of 26-16 as Ziah George scored 12 and Mackenzie Miller added six. The Lady Hornets improved to 4-2.
The EMS varsity squad returns to action Tuesday at Belington, while the junior varsity squad visits Kasson on Thursday.
Middle school boys
EMS, B-UMS split
TENNERTON -- Elkins and Buckhannon-Upshur split games on Tuesday night.
The Little Bucs captured the varsity encounter, 43-33, as Jevin Westfall netted 26 points.
Allen Marks had 10 and Ethan Harner eight for the Hornets (1-5).
EMS took the JV contest, 38-5. Lincoln Fletcher had nine and Owen Stanley eight for the Hornets, who are now 6-1 and will visit Kasson on Thursday.
The EMS varsity squad is scheduled to host Belington on Tuesday, with JV action set to start at 5:45 p.m.
