Mountain Lions hand Bulldogs first loss

Harman holds off Meadow Bridge as Shootout in the Mountains concludes at Elkins High School

ELKINS -- In the final game of the Shootout in the Mountains, Tucker County used a strong defensive effort to hand Tygarts Valley a 43-30 setback Thursday evening at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.

It was the first loss of the season for the Bulldogs, who are now 5-1 on the season. They were held to just 12 field goals and without a point in the second quarter as the Mountain Lions turned an 11-5 deficit into a 15-11 halftime edge.

Ashton Lycliter led Tucker County with 11 points and 18 rebounds, followed by Maddox Anderson with 10 points and two assists and Levi Bennett three steals.

Ezra Scott had nine points for Tygarts Valley.

Leading scorer Garrett Gibson, who was limited to just six points, added four rebounds, two assists and three steals, Dalton Goode four rebounds and Jordan Phillips four rebounds and two steals.

Tucker County, which has won five straight games after falling to Elkins in the season opener, will return home at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to face Gilmer County.

Tygarts Valley hosts sectional foe Pocahontas County at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

In Thursday's first game, Harman (7-1) held off Meadow Bridge, 59-57, as Joe Fridley scored 20 points and Coy Teter added 19.

Jaden Gladwell had 19 points, Seaton Mullins 13 and Rian Cooper 11 for the Wildcats (1-5).
