Lady Bucs hold off University to win sectional title

Philip Barbour falls to Fairmont Senior

TENNERTON -- Buckhannon-Upshur claimed the Class AAAA, Region I, Section 2 title with a 47-43 win over University on Friday night.

The Lady Bucs, now 19-5 on the season, will host Wheeling Park in a co-regional final at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, seeking their first state tournament appearance since the 2018 squad lost to Parkersburg in the then Class AAA championship contest.

Wheeling Park lost to Morgantown in Friday's section 1 title contest.

The Lady Mohigans scored the game's final 10 points to claim a 55-50 victory.

Morgantown will entertain University in the other Region 1 co-final.

B-U held a 36-25 advantage against the Lady Hawks entering the final quarter of play.

Fairmont Senior 69, PB 31

FAIRMONT -- Marley Washenitz fired in 31 points as top-seed Fairmont Senior defeated Philip Barbour in the Class AAA, Region II, Section 1 title game on Friday night.

Meredith Maier added 15 points and Emily Starn 11 for the Lady Polar Bears (22-1), who will host Lewis County in a co-regional final on Tuesday.

Mattie Marsh had 12 points for the Lady Colts (13-8), who visit Robert C. Byrd in the other co-regional on Tuesday as they seek their first state tourney appearance in school history.
