Mountain Lions best Preston to improve to 16-2

Pocahontas County girls drop verdict against No. 10 Pendleton

HAMBLETON -- Class A, No. 6 Tucker County pulled away in the third quarter to claim a 60-47 win over Preston on Monday night.

The Mountain Lions (16-2) held a 28-23 lead at halftime before outscoring the Knights, 18-6, in the third to open up a 46-29 cushion entering the final frame.

Preston cut the margin to 12, at 57-45, with 3 minutes remaining in regulation but came no closer.

Levi Bennett paced Tucker County with 16 points, followed by Owen Knotts with 14 and Ashton Lycliter with 12.

Mason Sargent led the Knights (0-16) with 15 points. Stephen Felton chipped in 13.

The Mountain Lions remain home at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to face Keyser.

Preston is slated to entertain Elkins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

DUNMORE -- Pocahontas County dropped a 49-38 decision to Class A, No. 10 Pendleton County on Saturday.

Olivia Vandevender had 13 points, Macaden Taylor 10 points and Allyson Alderman six points and seven assists to lead the Lady Warriors (7-13),.

Pocahontas County was scheduled to host Class AA, No. 6 Summers County on Monday evening before concluding the regular season at Alleghany (Va.) at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
