Bulldogs hold off Hornets, 9-5

ELKINS -- Tygarts Valley held off a late rally by Elkins Middle School in taking a 9-5 win Wednesday night at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.

The Bulldogs led 8-0 before the Hornets struck for five runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Owen Stanley, Jude Evick and Ryan Jones were credited with RBIs in the inning for Elkins.

Adam Woods had two hits to lead the Bulldogs. Joey Rader added a double.

Jayden Harding and Preston Eversol had doubles for the Hornets.

Eversol's hit with one out in the bottom of the fifth was the first of the night for the hosts against TVMS starter Jacob Wamsley.

Stanley and Eversol both saw time on the mound for the Hornets.

Stanley went the first four innings, scattering two runs on five hits and fanning five.

Eversol allowed seven runs on five hits and struck out six.

Wamsley went the first five innings to earn the win. He gave up four runs on three hits, and fanned nine.

Woods pitched the final two frames, giving up one run on one hit and striking out three.

Tygarts Valley is now 3-0 and is slated to visit Buckhannon-Upshur at 6 p.m. Monday.

Elkins (2-1) will entertain Pendleton County at 5 p.m. Friday for a doubleheader.
