PHILIPPI -- Freshman Avery McDaniel had three RBIs and earned the win on the mound as Philip Barbour claimed an 11-3 win over Elkins Friday in Big 10 Conference play.
The Lady Tigers, making their season debut under first-year coach Michaela Lewis-Lambert, held a 3-2 advantage before the Lady Colts struck for four runs in the bottom of the third and five more in the fifth to end the game due to the mercy rule.
McDaniel cracked a three-run triple in the fifth.
McDaniel went the first four innings, allowing three runs on four hits and fanning four. Sara Simon worked the fifth inning, striking out the side.
Simon, Chesnee Summerfield and Bella Bibey also knocked in runs for the Lady Colts, who also defeated Bridgeport, 4-1, on Thursday to open the season.
Hallie Roy was tagged with the loss in 4 2/3 innings, giving up 11 runs, five being earned, on four hits. She struck out two.
Ravin Weirich led Elkins at the plate with two hits and an RBI.
The Lady Tigers will make their home debut at 5:30 p.m. Monday against Preston.
Philip Barbour entertains Robert C. Byrd on the same day at 5 p.m.
