McDaniels leads Lady Bucs past Elkins

Senior all-stater homers, drives in five in 22-3 win

ELKINS -- Shelby McDaniels hit a three-run homer and finished with five RBIs as Buckhannon-Upshur cruised to a 22-3 win over Elkins in four innings Wednesday night in Big 10 Conference play.

McDaniels, a senior all-state first-team performer, smacked her homer during an eight-run outburst in the second inning as the Lady Bucs built a 13-0 lead.

The Lady Tigers picked up a pair of runs in the bottom of the second on an RBI fielder's choice from Sara Collins and another run crossed on an error.

Kaitlin Stone added a solo homer in the third.

Robin Ball and Jansen Kimble also had three RBIs and a homer each for B-U, while Brooklyn Robinson and Taylor Spratt had two RBIs apiece.

Ball and McDaniels scored four runs each

Ravin Weirich had two hits and scored a run for Elkins.

Kimble worked all four innings to garner the win. She allowed four hits and struck out three.

Halle Roy went the first two innings in taking the loss, giving up 13 runs on six hits and striking out one.

Kennedy Hart finished in relief.

The Lady Bucs (3-3) will travel Fairmont Senior at 5 p.m. today, while the Lady Tigers are scheduled to visit Grafton on Monday.
