Donnen pitches Bucs to 4-1 triumph over Liberty

Lady Bucs claim 10-2 win over Big 10 foe Bridgeport

TENNERTON -- Ian Donnen twirled a one-hitter to lead Buckhannon-Upshur to a 4-1 win over Liberty Wednesday night in Big 10 Conference play.

Donnen fanned five, walked five and the run he allowed was unearned.

Zach Calef-Boring, Cam Tenney and Payton Bennett had two hits each for the Bucs.

Bennett cracked an RBI double in the third to give B-U a 4-0 lead.

The Mountaineers dented the scoreboard in the seventh on an RBI groundout from John Angiulli.

Jayce Clevenger went four innings in taking the loss. He gave up four runs on seven hits and struck out two.

Jace Bartley pitched the final two innings in relief, fanning three.

The Bucs (3-8) are scheduled to visit Lewis County at 5 p.m. today.

B-U 10, Bridgeport 2

TENNERTON -- Buckhannon-Upshur erupted for eight runs in the first inning en route to a 10-2 win over Bridgeport Wednesday night in Big 10 Conference play.

Robin Ball, Taylor Spratt and Quinn Burnside finished with two RBIs each for the Lady Bucs.

Ball, Shelby McDaniels and Jansen Kimble all had two hits apiece.

Kimble went all five innings to record the win, allowing two runs on five hits, fanning six with no walks.

Chloe Pethel was tagged win the loss, allowing 10 runs on nine hits in three innings. She had four strikeouts and walked two.

Rachel Mason had an RBI and Maddie Garner two hits for the Lady Indians.

Ball and Burnside had two-run singles during the first-inning outburst for B-U, while McDaniels, Kimble and Alyssa Abel added run-producing singles.

Spratt cracked a two-run double in the third to treat the Lady Bucs to a 10-0 lead.

B-U (7-5) will visit Lewis County at 7 p.m. today.
