Lady Tiger relay unit takes first at B-U meet
Host Buccaneers capture both girls, boys team titles

TENNERTON -- The Elkins High School girls placed fifth and the boys seventh during a track meet held Tuesday at Buckhannon-Upshur High School.
The Lady Tigers' 4×400 relay team of Kiley Edwards, Anna Belan, Laney Fletcher and Gracelin Corley captured first in a time of 4:23.24.
That unit has the fastest Class AA time in the state this spring, according to runwv.com.
Second-place finishers for Elkins included freshman Hazel Jackson in the 100 hurdles (18.48), Kiley Edwards in the 400 (1:05.07) and the 4×100 and 4×200 relays comprised of Kaleigh Edwards, Belan, Fletcher and Corley in times of 53.97 and 1:55.67, respectively.
Samantha Sproul was third in the 1,600 (5:58.90), along with the shuttle hurdle relay unit of Jackson, Alyson Evick, Emma Morgan and Zayah Hedrick with an effort of 1:19.22.
Evick took fourth in the 100 hurdles in 19.91, Sophie Shoemaker was fifth in the discus with a throw of 72-11 and Evick fifth in the 300 hurdles in a time of 57.99.
The EHS boys were led by third-place finishes by Luke Anger in the 800 (2:04.76) and the 4×200 relay of Isiah Sigley, Zane George, Gavin Boland and Jaydon Shreve with a time of 1:40.77.
Fourth-place finishers included Isaac Anger in the 1,600 (5:21.08) and the 4×100 relay of Sigley, George, Boland and Shreve in 48.43.
Tayton Lee was fifth in the shot put (34-10) and Tyler Burda was sixth in the 1,600 (5:26.33).
Catherine Oliveto, Samantha Shreve, Cameron Zuliani and Chloe Cale each won two events to lead the B-U girls to the team title with 168 points.
Fairmont Senior (102), East Fairmont (75), South Harrison (69), Elkins (66), Webster County (27) and Tucker County (17) rounded out the field.
Oliveto took the 200 (27.69) and 400 (1:03.09), Shreve the 1,600 (5:36.22) and 3,200 (12:07.74), Zuliani the 300 hurdles (51.42) and discus (116-03) and Cale the long jump (15-08.50) and 100 hurdles (17.91).
Winning relay teams for the Lady Bucs were the 4×200 (Dezi Pugh, Oliveto, Zuliani and Cale) in a time of 1:52.71, the 4×800 (Miah Reger, Mia Sappey, Ashley Catlin and Shreve) in 10:58.14 and the shuttle hurdle (Oliveto, Zuliani, Pugh and Cale) in 1:11.22.
The B-U boys tallied 178 points to place first, followed by East Fairmont (156), Webster County (75), Fairmont Senior (71), Tucker County (31), Elkins (27) and South Harrison (16).
Taiwo Thropp took the 100 (11.67) and 200 (23.25) to lead the Bucs, who also claimed four relay events.
Camden Snyder, Taiwo Thropp, Sterlin Thropp and Shawn Blandino won the 4×100 (45.05), Julien Larcher, Blandino, Sterlin Thropp and Taiwo Thropp the 4×200 (1:33.42), Jordan Gillum, Larcher, Blandino and Sterlin Thropp the 4×400 (3:33.66) and Larcher, Gillum, Jack Waggy and Reis Leonard the 4×800 (8:33.47).
Sterlin Thropp also took the 400 (50.61), Gillum the 800 (2:00.88), Waggy the 3,200 (10:42.32), Carter Zuliani the 110 hurdles (17.24) and Dirk Riley the discus (122-07.50).
