ELKINS -- A seventh-inning rally fell short for Elkins in a 6-4 setback to East Fairmont Tuesday night in Big 10 Conference play at EHS Field.
The Tigers clawed their way out of a 6-0 deficit by plating two runs in the fourth and two more in the seventh.
Elkins had the tying run at the plate in the final frame before Tristan Boone entered in relief for the Bees and recorded the final three outs.
A two-run single by Kaynan Coleman in the first gave East Fairmont a 2-0 lead and the visitors tacked on two more in the second when Clay Hershberger led off with a double and later scored on a double steal, while Boone trotted home on error.
An RBI single by Hershberger and Carter Brown's sacrifice fly in the fourth increased the lead to 6-0.
The Tigers answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame when Gavin Carr led off with a single, stole second and later scored on a pair of wild pitches.
Owen Haddix, who also had singled, later trotted home on Hunter Shreve's single to right.
It remained a two-run deficit until Elkins rallied in the seventh when Shreve and Jaxon Drennen reached on singles to start the inning.
Drennen then stole second and Lincoln Scott followed with another single to plate both runners.
Boone then got a groundout and two pop outs in the infield to end the game.
Brown worked six-plus innings to earn the win, allowing four runs -- all earned -- on 11 hits. He struck out two and walked two.
Carr was saddled with the loss, allowing six runs, three being earned, on four hits in 4 1/3 innings.
Scott had a strong outing in relief as he gave up just one hit and struck out four in 2 2/3 innings.
Shreve had three hits and Scott and Carr two apiece for the Tigers.
Connor Tingler had two hits and Hershberger scored three times for Bees (9-11).
Elkins, now 6-13 overall and 5-11 in Big 10 action, is slated to remain home the remainder of the week, hosting Fairmont Senior at 6 p.m. today for Senior Night, Tygarts Valley at 7 p.m. Thursday and Lincoln at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
