Tigers best Knights, fall to Grafton

KINGWOOD -- Elkins split a pair of Big 10 Conference contests Saturday at Preston.

The Tigers opened the day with a 9-5 win over the host Knights, before dropping a 3-2 decision to Grafton.

Aiden Lambert struck out 11 batters and allowed six hits in earning the win against Preston.

Jaxon Drennen clubbed a pair of doubles and Cameron Biller had two RBIs and scored three times to lead Elkins at the plate.

The Bearcats got a walk-off win in the second game as Mason Markley led off with a walk and later scored on a wild pitch.

Elkins took a 2-1 lead in the fourth on Lincoln Scott's RBI groundout.

Cole Mooney's run-producing double in the home-half of the frame allowed Grafton to get even.

Gavin Carr also had an RBI single in the third for the Tigers and Dustin Keener a run-producing single in the first for the Bearcats.

Carr and Hunter Shreve had two hits each in the loss.

Drennen had a strong outing on the mound for the Tigers, allowing just two runs on two hits, recording nine strikeouts and walking just one.

Charlie Smoak took the loss.

Tanner Moats went the distance to earn the win, giving up six hits and fanning five with a walk.

Elkins (5-9, 4-8 Big 10) travels to Buckhannon-Upshur at 6 p.m. today.
