Bridgeport ends Bucs’ season; Pendleton wins

BRIDGEPORT -- Top-seed Bridgeport eliminated No. 3 Buckhannon-Upshur from the Class AAA, Region I, Section 2 tournament with a 10-1 win on Thursday evening.

Zach Nicholson twirled a complete-game three-hitter for the Indians, striking out four and issuing just one walk.

Zach Calef-Boring was tagged with the loss, going the first 1 2/3 innings and giving up six runs on five hits and fanning one.

Aiden Paulsen had a run-producing triple as part of a five-run second inning as Bridgeport built a 6-1 cushion.

Chris Harbert, Austin Mann, Gabe Ross and Ben McDougal also had RBIs in the frame.

Anthony Dixon added two RBIs in the contest.

Clint Crites had a double, Calef-Boring and Ian Donnen tallied singles and Marple scored a run for B-U, which ended the season 10-19.

Defending state champion Bridgeport (28-5) hosts second-seed University today.

The Indians lost a 13-3 verdict to the Hawks on Wednesday and need two wins to keep their hopes for an eighth straight state title alive.

Pendleton 7, Tucker 1

FRANKLIN -- Pendleton defeated Tucker County, 7-1, Thursday night in an elimination game of the Class A, Region II, Section 2 tourney.

Clayton Kisamore earned the win, allowing two hits and fanning 10.

He also helped his cause with two doubles and two RBIs, while Cameron Beachler went 4 for 4, Allden Rexrode 1 for 2 with two runs scored, Jayden Roberson 1 for 3 with an RBI and Caleb Armentrout 2 for 4.

The Wildcats will visit East Hardy this evening for another elimination game.
