CHARLESTON -- The Buckhannon-Upshur boys got off to a strong start in the Class AAA portion of the state track and field meet Thursday night at UC Stadium at Laidley Field.
The Bucs' Shawn Blandino placed second and teammate Sterlin Thropp third in times of 49.54 and 49.69, respectively, in the 400-meter dash.
Jefferson's Isaiah Fritts won the event with an effort of 49.33.
Taiwo Thropp also earned a qualifying spot in today's finals of the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.59.
Freshman Carter Zuliani just missed earning a spot in the finals of the 110 hurdles, placing ninth in Thursday's qualifier in a time of 16.29.
In the 3,200 on Thursday night, freshman Samantha Shreve was ninth for the Lady Bucs in a time of 12:00.19.
Class AAA state meet action continues at 10 a.m. today.
