PHILIPPI -- Second-seed Philip Barbour broke a 1-1 deadlock by scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning in taking a 4-1 win over No. 3 Robert C. Byrd Tuesday evening in Class AA, Region II, Section 1 tourney play.
The Lady Colts (18-3) will now travel to top-seed Lincoln, a 7-3 winner over fourth-seed Liberty on Tuesday, at 6 p.m. today. It will be the fourth meeting between the Big 10 Conference foes, with the Lady Cougars holding a 2-1 edge in three tightly played contests.
After the Lady Eagles tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth when Avery Childers doubled and later scored on a throwing error, Philip Barbour answered in the home-half of the frame.
Katie Kennedy started the rally with an infield single and Preslee Fincham then reached on an error on a low throw to first on a sacrifice bunt.
Kennedy, who had advanced to third on the error, and courtesy runner Lindsey Moss then trotted home when Makayla Gonzales doubled to left-center field.
Katielynn Warner then brought Gonzales home with a single up the middle to make it 4-1.
Sara Simon, who limited RCB to just four hits and struck out 15, allowed just a single the rest of the way and fanned the side in the seventh to end the game.
The Lady Colts took a 1-0 lead in the third when Gonzales led off with a double and later scored on a single by Lilley Criss.
But Lady Flying Eagle starter Fran Alvaro averted an further damage in the frame by retiring three straight batters with the bases loaded.
Gonzales went 3 for 3 with her two doubles to lead Philip Barbour at the plate. Katelyn Cooper added a pair of singles.
Alvaro allowed seven hits and struck out eight in taking the loss.
Gina Alvaro had two hits for RCB, which hosts Elkins at 6 p.m. today in an elimination game.
