Lady Bulldogs’ shuttle hurdle relay team repeats as champs

CHARLESTON — The Tygarts Valley girls shuttle hurdle relay team repeated as champions in the Class A portion of the state track and field meet held Friday and Saturday at UC Stadium at Laidley Field.

The team of juniors Joie Bell and Alyvia George, along with sophomore Rommie Shumate and senior Landrie Lanham turned in a time of 1:09.01. The same group also took the gold in 2021.

Junior Felcity Walden, meanwhile, tied for second in the high jump with a leap of 5-02.00, Lanham was third in the 100 hurdles (17.34) and fourth in the shot put (31-10.50) and Bell fourth in the long jump (15-07.50).

The Lady Bulldogs finished with 31 points to place sixth as a team.

Williamstown won the title with 148 points, followed by Doddridge County (88), Ritchie County (67), St. Marys (38) and Magnolia (37) to comprise the top five.

Tucker County’s 4×800 relay team of juniors Lilly Callaway, Hannah Hardy, Erin Chambers and sophomore Katie Hicks placed sixth in a time of 11:07.55.

The Tygarts Valley boys placed sixth in the 4×100 relay with an effort of 46.99.

Team members included juniors Walker George and Wade Warner, sophomore Nate Hulver and senior Collin Daniels.

The shuttle hurdle relay of juniors Alex Sutton and Nathan Jones, Hulver and Warner also finished sixth in a time of 1:06.97.

Doddridge County won the title with 86 points. Ritchie County (80), St, Marys (58), Wheeling Central (55) and Buffalo (39) rounded out the top five.
