PHILIPPI -- Charleston Catholic found the back of the net three times in the opening half to hold off Philip Barbour, 3-1, in a rematch of last season's Class AA-A state championship game.
The Lady Irish, who captured the 2021 title with a 3-2 win over the Lady Colts in double-overtime, netted all of their goals midway through the first half over a 10-minute span.
Annie Cimino got Catholic on the board when she knocked in a corner kick.
Less than 2 minutes later, the Lady Irish struck again when Molly Messer got past the PB defense and scored from 10 yards out.
Junior Braylyn Sparks answered for the Lady Colts when her boot from 25-yards out eluded the Catholic keeper.
It was the first goal surrendered by the Lady Irish through the first four games of the season.
However, Shannon Karr again made it a two-goal deficit for the hosts with her score.
The three-state state champion Charleston Catholic improved to 4-0 with the victory.
Philip Barbour, now 2-1, will visit Robert C. Byrd at 8 p.m. Tuesday to begin Big 10 Conference play.
