EMS girls and boys both place third in home invitational

ELKINS -- Julia Biola placed second as the Elkins Middle School girls cross country team finished third in the EMS Invitational held Saturday at Davis & Elkins College.

Biola cleared the course in a time of 14:37 to finish behind South Middle School's Leyland Phillips (14:31).

Emilia Tenney was the second Lady Hornet to cross the finish line in 12th place in a time of 15:34.

South tallied 27 points to win the title, followed by Keyser (68), Elkins (80), West Fairmont (83), Bridgeport (124), Central Preston (161) and Belington (174).

Dakota Wolpert finished 26th in a time of 17:31 to lead Belington.

The EMS boys also finished in third and were paced by Trevor George, who placed 10th in a time of 14:05, and Cody Robinson (12th, 14:11).

South (23) took team honors, while Bridgeport (76), EMS (81), Belington (125), Covenant Christian (136), Keyser (142), West Fairmont (164), Washington Irving (224) and Kasson (244) rounded out the team scoring.

Jacob Burner was ninth in a time of 14:02 to lead Belington, while Kasson's top finisher was Quade Frey (38th, 16:37).
