Strong second half lifts Bearcats over Tigers

Bucs garner win over Bees

ELKINS — Grafton erupted for six goals in the second half en route to a 7-0 victory over Elkins Tuesday night in Big 10 Conference action at Tiger Stadium.

The Tigers trailed 1-0 before the Bearcats doubled their lead on a goal by Layne England just 2 minutes into the second half.

England added his second goal of the half to make it 3-0 before Bryson Kittle stepped out of goal to convert a penalty kick.

Grafton (6-2-4) added scores from Adrian Joyce, Conner Abraham and Landon Hulley.

Elkins (5-2-1) will visit East Fairmont at 6 p.m. on Thursday for another Big 10 matchup.

The Bearcats visit Preston on the same evening.

B-U 2, East Fairmont 0

TENNERTON — Buckhannon-Upshur found the back of the net in each half to claim a 2-0 win over East Fairmont Tuesday night in Big 10 Conference play.

Noah Radabaugh and Timothy Snyder accounted for the goals by the Bucs.

Caleb Haney added an assist.

Dalton Auvil had seven saves in net to record the shutout.

B-U visits Robert C. Byrd at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Middle school soccer

EMS girls fall

ELKINS — Lincoln defeated the Elkins Middle School girls, 5-2, on Monday.

Ziah George and Talia Nucilli had goals for EMS.

In JV boys action, Elkins claimed a 5-1 win as Treven Schaeffer scored two goals and Derek Bailey, Dyer Barger and Luke Valentine one apiece.

The JV squad tied Barbour County, 1-1, on Saturday. Major Chewning had the Hornets’ goal on a PK.
