B-U girls place fourth, PB girls third in state meet

ONA -- Lydia Falkenstein and Samantha Shreve placed in the top 10 to lead the Buckhannon-Upshur girls to a fourth-place showing in Saturday's Class AAA portion of the state meet held at Cabell Midland High School.

Falkenstein, a senior, cleared the course in a time of 19:00.05 to finish fifth and Shreve, a sophomore, was right behind in sixth with an effort of 19:01.64.

Senior Jessica Williams was 31st (21:11.90) for the Lady Bucs, while junior Miah Reger was 37th (21:28.22), junior Mia Sappey 40th (21:36.98), junior Brianna Dalton 55th (22:43.66) and sophomore Pressley Bowers 68th (23:51.41).

Morgantown took the team title with 32 points. University (77) was second, Cabell Midland, also with 77 points, third, B-U (110) fourth and Jefferson (133) fifth to round out the top five.

Morgantown senior Irene Riggs blazed through the course in a time if 16:32.32 to win individual honors.

In the Class AAA boys race, B-U senior Jordan Gillum placed 36th in a time of 17:41.60.

University won the team title, with Hurricane sophomore Ty Steorts taking the individual trophy with a time of 15:27.14.

In the Class AA girls race, Philip Barbour (93) place third behind champion Winfield (60) and Fairmont Senior (74).

Senior Megan Mitchell was 16th for the Lady Colts in a time of 21:43.70.

Junior Layna "Turkey" Grassi was 19th (21:59.87), freshman Kayla Baker 28th (22:32.28), senior Alexia Ferber 30th (22:37.15), junior Phaedra Payne 47th (23:50.14) and freshman Sullivan Grassi 64th (25:59.30).

In Class A, the Tucker County boys were seventh and led by freshman Cameron Judy, who placed 28th in a time of 19:22.03.

Other Mountain Lion finishers included freshman Nate Ricottilli (36th, 19:58.24), sophomore Allan Boyles (39th, 20:03.11), freshman Lynk Suesli (39th, 20:07.88) and freshman Alex Boyles (44th, 20:16.33).

Williamstown won the team title and Wheeling Central junior Aidan Scott the individual crown in a time of 16:23.60.

In the girls race, Tucker County freshman Addi Moats was 19th (21:41.14) and senior Erin Chambers 25th (22:26.65).

Williamstown captured the team crown behind sophomore Alyssa Sauro's first-place finish in a time if 19:01.65.
