EMS cross country teams complete successful seasons

ELKINS -- The Elkins Middle School girls and boys cross country teams, under the leadership of head coach Jessica Sutton and assistant Andrew Carroll, completed successful seasons this fall that included multiple team titles and individual meet victories.
The young team of 24 runners spent their afternoons training at Davis & Elkins College, the Allegheny Highlands Trail and on occasion ventured into town to run up Terrace Ave or to Riverbend and Glendale Parks for speed workouts.
The girls team picked up the overall title at the Bearcat Invitational and finished in the top three at the Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Invitational, Down in the Backwoods Invitational, Elkins Middle School Invitational and Mid-Mountain Ten Conference Championship.
Individually, the girls team was led by eighth-grade standout Julia Biola, who in addition to multiple top five finishes, picked up the individual win at the Down in the Backwoods Invitational.
The boys team picked up the overall title at the Down in the Backwoods Middle School Invitational and finished in the top three in the Washington Irving Last Call Middle School Invitational, Bearcat Invitational and Elkins Middle School Invitational.
Individually, the boys team was paced by eighth-grader Trevor George, who picked up his first individual win at the Mid-Mountain Ten Conference Championship after finishing runner-up in two earlier meets.
