CHARLESTON -- Second-seed Philip Barbour repeated as Class AA state volleyball champions by defeating top-seed Shady Spring Thursday at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.
It was the fifth title over the past eight seasons and sixth in school history for the Lady Colts under head coach Heather Halfin.
In a rematch of last year's title game, Philip Barbour won the first two games by the scores of 25-20 and 25-18, before the Lady Tigers claimed the third set, 26-24.
The Lady Colts (56-3-1) then closed the deal with a 25-22 victory in the fourth set to set off the celebration.
Philip Barbour began its 22nd consecutive appearance in the state tournament by defeating seventh-seed Winfield in the quarterfinals and No. 3 Oak Glen in the semifinals -- both by 3-0 scores.
Musselman and Williamstown, meanwhile, repeated as state champions in Class AAA and A, respectively.
It was the third straight title for Musselman.
