Third-quarter surge allows No.2 Tucker to best No. 3 Wildcats

HAMBLETON -- A third-quarter surge lifted Class A, No. 2 Tucker County to a 53-45 win over No. 3 Pendleton County on Monday night.
In a make-up game between the PVC rivals, the Mountain Lions held a 31-30 halftime lead before limiting the Wildcats to just four free throws in the third in taking a 44-34 edge entering the final canto.
Trevon Bonner netted 14 points and Maddox Anderson 13 to lead the Mountain Lions (1-1).
Freshman Chase Owens had 14 points and Jacob Beachler 10 for Pendleton County.
In JV action, Tucker County claimed a 47-35 win as Sam Marks scored 10 and Mikey Mitchell nine. Jayden Hess had 13 and Cashton Kisamore 10 for the Wildcats.
The Mountain Lions are slated to host East Hardy at noon today for another rescheduled contest.
Pendleton (2-2) will face Moorefield at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Petersburg Holiday Tip-Off. The host Vikings battle Union in the late game.
The consolation and title games are set for Friday at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively, in one of the oldest holiday tournaments in the state.
