CLARKSBURG -- Ashlynn Van Tassell tossed in 28 points and Class A, top-ranked Cameron used a strong third quarter en route to a 55-42 win over Elkins in City Construction Company Hoops Classic action Wednesday afternoon at Robert C. Byrd.
Van Tassell scored 22 of her points after halftime for the Lady Dragons, who improved to 7-3.
A 3-pointer by Kenzie Clutter out of the halftime break gave the Lady Dragons a 20-17 cushion before the Lady Tigers answered with a 6-0 run, getting four points from Maddie Belan and a layup by Celia Ricottilli to take a 23-20 advantage with 6:20 left in the third.
Cameron, however, then took control behind the inside play of the 6-foot-2 Van Tassell and the balanced scoring of Ashlee and Emilee Dobbs, who each finished with nine points in the win.
Elkins took its final advantage, at 24-23, on a free throw by Autumn Lane before the Lady Dragons responded on the other end with a trey by Ashlee Dobbs to lead for good.
A banked-in runner by Emilee Dobbs with 3 minutes left in the frame pushed the cushion to 30-24, but Ricottilli answered with a 3-pointer to cut the deficit in half.
But the Lady Tigers came no closer the remainder of the game as Cameron closed the canto on a 10-0 run.
Gracelin Corley had 13 points and Belan nine to lead Elkins, which faces East Hardy in today's consolation contest.
East Hardy lost a 46-27 decision to Class AAA, No. 4 Robert C. Byrd in Wednesday's other game.
Avery Childers had 17 points and Jaden Sturm added 11 for the Lady Flying Eagles, who are now 5-1 on the season.
Emma Heishman had 10 for the Lady Cougars (4-4).
RCB and Cameron will square off in the title game.
