CHARLESTON -- Elkins is ranked sixth in the first Associated Press regular-season boys basketball poll announced on Monday.
The Tigers (4-2) were fourth in the preseason poll. They will return to action this evening at Lincoln
Shady Spring remained No. 1 in Class AAA, followed by Fairmont Senior.
Tucker County still sets at No. 2 in Class A with a 3-2 record. The Mountain Lions will visit Moorefield on Friday.
James Monroe tops the Class A poll, while Pendleton County (3-3) fell from third to fifth
Morgantown and Bluefield remained No. 1 in Class AAAA and AA, respectively.
In the girls poll, Buckhannon-Upshur, which visits No. 4 North Marion on Wednesday, is still eighth in Class AAAA, with Wheeling Park moving from third to first.
Morgantown dropped from first to third.
Philip Barbour (2-3) fell five spots to eighth in Class AAA. The Lady Colts venture to Fairmont Senior on Wednesday.
Wayne took over the top spot after being fifth in the preseason rankings.
Elkins, which hosts Lincoln on Wednesday, is among those receiving votes and is13th.
In Class A, Tucker County (6-0) is still second behind defending state champion Cameron.
The Lady Mountain Lions received two first-place votes. They travel to Class AA, No. 8 Petersburg this evening.
