ELKINS -- Kenna Maxwell fired in 24 points to lead Buckhannon-Upshur to a 43-37 win over Elkins on Friday night.
The Lady Tigers trailed 29-27 after three quarters and by as many as seven, at 35-28, after a basket by Kendal Currence in the final quarter.
But Elkins came within two points on three different occassions over the final 4:40 of regulation, using a conventional three-point play by Celia Ricottilli to make it 35-33 and later on a layup by Addy Cogar at 37-35 with 1:48 left.
A layup by Gracelin Corley got the Lady Tigers within 39-37 with :36.8 left but they came no closer as Maxwell hit a free throw, Alyssa Abel scored a key bucket off a missed foul shot and later added a one to allow the Lady Bucs to pull away.
Abel added 11 points in the win and Hodge'Nay Henderson chipped in seven.
Corley paced Elkins with 13 points, followed by Ricottilli with 10 and Maddie Belan with eight.
Maxwell hit all of her free throws after being fouled on a 3-point attempt with less than a second left in the first half to allow B-U to take a 20-16 lead into the intermission after a back-and-forth battle over the first two quarters.
Elkins, which honored seniors Ricottilli, Autumn Lane and Hannah Davis before the game, will travel to Lincoln at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Class AAA, Region II, Section 2 action.
B-U begins Class AAAA, Region I, Section 2 play the same evening at Bridgeport.
