Area players earn all-Big 10 laurels

Elkins’ Harper and Watson join PB’s Bodkins as first-team selections

ELKINS -- After leading Elkins to a berth in the Class AAA state semifinals, Elkins' Cory Harper and Malachi Watson have been named to the all-Big 10 Conference first team.

The senior duo averaged around 17 points per game for the Tigers, who finished 17-10 this season, falling to eventual champion Fairmont Senior in the semifinals.

The Polar Bears defeated Shady Spring in Saturday night's title game to repeat as state champions.

Philip Barbour sophomore forward TD Bodkins also landed on the first unit after averaging 22 ppg.

The other first-team choices included Bridgeport's Anthony Spatafore, East Fairmont's Evan Parr and Jackson Crouso, Grafton's J.T. Veltri, Fairmont Senior's DeSean Goode, Robert C. Byrd's Brayden Thomason, North Marion's Harley Sickles and Lewis County's Ben Putnam.

The Tigers also placed senior guard Tanner Miller on the second team, along with PB junior guard Kaden Humphreys.

The rest of the second unit included North Marion's Preston Williams, Lincoln's David Burdette and Brayden Edgell, RCB's Quintin Cooley, Fairmont Senior's Andre Grant, East Fairmont's Greyson Stewart, Lewis County's Tanner Griffith, Liberty's Noah McKim and Jenson Dodd and Grafton's Jacob Maier.

Fairmont Senior's Zycheus Dobbs was named the Player of the Year and East Fairmont's Ty Asterino the Coach of the Year.

Voting for the teams and individual honors were conducted by the Big 10 coaches and administrators.
