PETERSBURG -- Petersburg advanced to the state tournament for the third straight year with a 64-41 win over Braxton County Tuesday night in a Class AA, Region II co-final.
The Lady Vikings (14-9) are the sixth seed in the tourney and will face No. 3 St. Mary's at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center in quarterfinal action.
Nellie Whetzel fired in 23 points to lead Petersburg in Tuesday's win, followed by Braylee Corbin and Sam Colaw with 12 each.
Adrian Lunceford had 16 points for the Eagles, who ended the season 6-18.
The Lady Vikings led 19-14 after one quarter and 38-25 at halftime. They took a 55-29 advantage into the final canto.
