CHARLESTON -- Abbie Alt tossed in 18 points as sixth-seed Petersburg knocked off No. 3 St. Marys, 48-40, Wednesday morning in Class AA quarterfinal action at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.
The Lady Vikings (15-9) advanced to face second-seed Wyoming East at 7:15 p.m. Friday in the semifinals.
Wyoming East rolled past No. 7 Ravenswood, 67-37, in the other early quarterfinal game.
Petersburg never trailed against the Lady Blue Devils, taking a 27-18 advantage into intermission and led 37-28 after three quarters.
St. Marys rallied to get within 41-38 with just over 2 minutes left in regulation, but never came closer as a basket and free throw from Alt and a pair from the charity stripe by Nellie Whetzel helped the Lady Vikings go up by eight with :24 left.
Whetzel finished with 10 points and six rebounds and Braylee Corbin eight points to go along with 13 caroms for the Lady Vikings of head coach Jon Webster.
Addie Davis had 17 points and Kiera Martin 12 for the Lady Blue Devils, who ended the season 17-8.
