Elkins Middle School and Pendleton battle to 3-3 tie

ELKINS -- Elkins Middle School and Pendleton County battled to a 3-3 deadlock Thursday night at Elkins High School Field.

The Hornets (5-2-1) led 3-0 before the Wildcats plated a single run in the third and two in the fourth to tie the contest.

Owen Stanley gave EMS a 1-0 lead in the second when he doubled in Isaac Shepler, who had reached on a dropped third strike.

In the second inning, Shepler and Stanley drew bases-loaded walks to make it 3-0.

Colby Simmons lofted a sacrifice fly in the third to plate Broty Sites for Pendleton County, while a wild pitch and an error by the Hornets in the fourth led to a pair of runs.

Trent Stone worked the first three innings for Elkins, allowing just one hit and striking out six.

Blayne Thompson and Dyer Barger each worked a scoreless inning.

Four pitchers saw time on the mound for the Wildcats, with Cooper Smith going the first 1 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on two hits and fanning four.
