TENNERTON -- The Buckhannon-Upshur boys track team is in position to be a force with the major meets of the season on the horizon.
The Bucs turned in a stellar performance this past Friday evening at the Capitol City Classic held at the University of Charleston Stadium at Laidley Field -- the site of next month's state meet.
B-U, which is fifth in the latest Run WV Power Class AAA team rankings, piled up 115.66 points to easily outdistance runner-up Riverside's 65.33 points.
A total of 18 teams competed in the boys meet.
Taiwo Thropp led the way for the Bucs by winning three different events.
The senior took the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.73, the 200 with an effort of 22.07 and the 400 in 49.84.
Thropp's times in all three events are currently among the top 3 statewide.
In last year's state meet, Thropp finished sixth in the 200 and was a member of two relay squads that finished among the top five.
Thropp also played football for the Bucs.
B-U is slated to host a meet today.
The Bucs will also compete in the Big 10 Conference Championships May 5 at Liberty High School and the Class AAA, Region 1 meet May 10 at John Marshall High School.
The state meet takes place May 19-20.
