Lady Tigers, TV have relay units place second at states

CHARLESTON -- The Elkins High School girls placed 11th in Class AA and Tygarts Valley's shuttle hurdle relay unit was second in the Class A portion of the state meet held Friday and Saturday at University of Charleston Stadium at Laidley Field.
Senior Kiley Edwards was third in the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.56, while the 4×400 relay of Edwards, Elizabeth Jones, Laney Fletcher and Gracelin Corley placed second in a time of 4:19.76. The same group was fourth in the 4×200 (1:51.61) and seventh in the 4×100 (52.89).
The 4×800 (Raighan Carte, Delia White, Mya Mendelson and Mallory Bennett) was 15th in a time of 11:42.12.
The 4×100 and 4×200 relays had their fastest times of the season, along with Edwards in the 200.
"All of our kids gave great efforts this weekend and I'm proud of every single one of them," EHS coach Scott Biola said. "If I had to highlight one outstanding single performer, it would without a doubt be Kiley Edwards. She got better every week this season and saved her best for last."
Philip Barbour received seventh-place finishes from Preslea Miller in the 100 hurdles (17.37) and the 4×800 relay (10:37.57) of Layna Grassi, Megan Mitchell, Lily Miller and Kayla Baker.
Winfield captured the team title with 150 points.
In Class A, Tygarts Valley's Joie Bell was third in the long jump (15-07.25) and Felcity Walden fourth in the high jump (4-10).
The shuttle hurdle relay of Bell, Alyvia George, Walden and Rommie Shumate finished second with an effort of 1:10.77.
The Lady Bulldogs tallied 19 points to tie for 10th, while Williamstown took team honors with 173.50 points.
Tucker County's 4×800 relay of Katie Hicks, Erin Chambers, Hannah Hardy and Addi Moats was sixth in a time of 11:00.16.
In Class AAA, Buckhannon-Upshur's Chloe Cale was third in the long jump (17-02.75) and Dezi Pugh third in the 300 hurdles (47.32).
Jefferson and Morgantown tied for the team title with 111 points apiece.
