PETERSBURG -- Fourth-seed Tucker County's run in the Class A, Region II, Section 2 tourney ended with an 11-3 setback to top-seed Petersburg on Thursday night.
After scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, Sam Colaw blanked the Lady Mountain Lions the remainder of the game, which ended in the fifth due to the mercy rule as the Lady Vikings captured the sectional crown.
Colaw allowed just two hits, no earned runs and struck out four.
She also led the Lady Vikings at the plate with two hits and four RBIs.
Olivia Kimble added a pair of hits and drove in two runs.
Autumn Russell and Corrinia Lipscomb accounted for Tucker County's hits.
The Lady Mountain Lions, who finished the season with a 14-14 record, had fought off elimination with wins over Pendleton County, East Hardy and Moorefield to advance to the championship round.
Petersburg (23-7) begins its bid to a return to the state tournament Monday at Doddridge County (24-9) in a best-of-three series.
The Lady Vikings, who were the state runner-ups in 2022, will host the second game of the series.
