Softball sectional play slated to begin today

Fifth-seed Elkins will travel to No. 4 RCB

ELKINS -- Weather permitting, high school softball sectional play is set to get underway today.

In the Class AA, Region 2, Section 1 tournament, fifth-seed Elkins travels to No. 4 Robert C. Byrd today.

The Lady Flying Eagles swept the season-series with the Lady Tigers, taking a doubleheader at home back in March.

Philip Barbour, meanwhile, is the second seed and hosts No. 3 Liberty on Wednesday.

The Lady Colts (15-8) split with the Lady Mountaineers during the regular season, each winning at home.

The losers of the Elkins-RCB and Liberty-PB contests meet Thursday at the highest seed in an elimination game.

The Liberty-Philip Barbour victor faces either Lincoln, Elkins or RCB in a winner's bracket finale Thursday at the highest seed.

The winner between Elkins and RCB travels to top-seed Lincoln on Wednesday.

The sectional title game is tentatively scheduled for next Monday.

All contests are at 6 p.m.

In Class AAA, Region I, Section 2 action, Buckhannon-Upshur is the third seed and begins play today at No 2 Bridgeport.

In Class A, Tygarts Valley is the third seed in the Region II, Section 2 tourney and visits No. 2 South Harrison at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, while in Region II, Section 1 action, Tucker County is the fourth seed and entertains No. 5 East Hardy today.

Doddridge County and Petersburg are the top seeds, respectively, in those sectional tournaments.
