HUTTONSVILLE -- The Elkins 10-12-year-olds stayed alive in the District 8 tourney with an 11-4 win over Summersville Friday night at Tygart Valley Little League Field.
Elkins will now face the winner of Friday night's late game between Pocahontas County and Clay County at 11 a.m. today.
The winner of the contest faces the loser of the Tygart Valley-Craigsville winner's bracket finale -- set for 8 p.m. today -- at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, with the victor advancing to the state tourney as the District 8 runner-up.
The 10-12-year-old state tourney gets underway July 14 in Bridgeport.
In 8-10-year-old tourney action, Tygart Valley was eliminated on Friday night in a 7-4 setback to Braxton County, which now meets the winner of Friday night's late contest between Craigsville and Elkins at 2 p.m. today in another elimination game.
The winner of the tilt advances to face the loser of the Belington-Summersville winner's bracket finale, set for 5 p.m. today, Sunday at 2 p.m.
The winner of that game earns a trip to the state tournament, scheduled to begin July 7 at Braxton County, as the District 8 runner-up.
