ELKINS -- Elkins Post 29 split a pair of games Saturday at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.
Elkins bounced back from a 9-3 setback to Garrett County (Md.) in the opener to claim a 17-4 win over Charleston Post 65 as Matthew Pratt cracked a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Wenkai Campbell, who had five RBIs in the game, and Ethan Humphrey added two-run homers.
Lincoln Scott also finished with two RBIs.
Humphrey worked the first 4 1/3 innings to earn the win. He gave up three runs on four hits and fanned one.
Campbell and Pratt finished in relief.
In Saturday's first game, Liam Stewart went 3 for 4 with a pair of RBIs to lead Post 71/214 to a 9-3 win in Saturday's first game.
Tanner Haskiell and Jared Haskiell added two hits apiece.
Brock Holland had a double and drove in two runs to lead Post 29 at the plate, while Cody Cooper and Albert Gonzales had two hits each and Cameron Biller an RBI sacrifice fly.
Biller started and went the first 2 1/3 innings for Post 29, allowing three runs on five hits and walking one.
Gonzales worked 2 2/3 innings of relief, giving up four runs on four hits with two strikeouts and Gage Huffman went two innings, surrendering two runs on four hits and striking out two.
Robert Deatelhauser pitched the first four innings to earn the win. He didn't allow a run on three hits and fanned two.
Elkins (5-9) remains home at 7 p.m. today to battle Buckhannon for a Area 2 contest.
