Lady Tigers blank Preston; Boys tie

By Joey Kittle 2 min read

ELKINS -- The Elkins High School girls soccer team rolled to a 8-0 win over Preston, while the boys battled the Knights to a 1-1 draw Tuesday night at Tiger Stadium.

Hailey Doyle and Talia Nucilli each had two goals for the Lady Tigers in their win. Lilly Betler, Addy Cogar and Layla Fletcher each found the back of the net as well.

"The girls had a great start to the game and finished their chances early," said EHS coach Scott Cutright, whose team led 6-0 at halftime. "We passed the ball very well and kept everyone involved.

"It's great to get an early win a very difficult (Big 10) conference."

In the boys game, the Tigers were able to garner a tie when Quincy Miller scored off an assist from Tucker Cutright with just one minute left to play.

"The boys played great tonight and it was a really fun game to be part of," said Scott Cutright, who is coaching both EHS squads again this season. "We kept the ball early and had some chances, but Preston played a pretty good offsides trap."

The Knights took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Jacob Williams before the Tigers answered late.

"After they scored in the second half, our boys never gave up and found a way to equalize late in the game," coach Scott Cutright said.

Both Elkins teams will be in action today at home as the girls face Big 10 foe Liberty at 5:30 p.m. and the boys battle Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m.
