B-U’s Shreve off to strong start on cross country scene

TENNERTON -- Buckhannon-Upshur's Samantha Shreve has been dominate this season on courses around the state.
The junior, currently second in the Class AAA RunWV rankings, has crossed the finish line in first in all of the Lady Bucs' races this season, including a dominating performance in Saturday's Mountain State Forest Festival Invitational held at Davis & Elkins College.
"(The D&E course) is a little hilly," Shreve said after the race. "I like it, though, because on the downhills you can gain some energy and sprint off of it."
Shreve turned in a time of 21:07 in Saturday's race to outdistance Elkins freshman and runner-up Julia Biola by 1:43.
"It's been an amazing season," Shreve said. "I've already had a PR (personal record) of 18:34 and very proud of the results our team.
"We are working together as a team and helping each other."
Shreve, who is also a member of the B-UHS track team, is looking forward to the rest of the season.
"I can't wait for the postseason," she said. "The Big 10 meet, regionals and hopefully the state meet will be exciting."
Shreve has qualified for the state meet the last two years, placing sixth in 2022.
