ELKINS -- The Elkins High School boys cross country team is in the midst of a strong season on the course.
Josh Bodkins has paced the Tigers this season, including strong efforts in his last two meets – a runner-up finish in this past Saturday's Bearcat Invitational, which included a field of 117 runners, and a first-place effort in the Mountain State Forest Festival Invitational at Davis & Elkins College.
His time of 16:33 on Saturday was Bodkins' personal best.
"We came out and executed a plan that we had in mind for this particular race," commented EHS coach Amanda Carter of the Bearcat invite. "Many of our kids are seeing huge improvements...they are running several minutes faster than last year."
Bodkins, a sophomore, is currently eighth in the Class AA RunWV rankings.
As a team, Elkins checks in at third-- just behind Winfield and Frankfort.
The Elkins High School cross country teams will return to action this Saturday at Hampshire High School's Clovis Invitational.
Racing begins with the varsity girls at 10 a.m., followed by the varsity boys at 10:45 a.m.
A co-ed junior varsity race will be held at 11:30 a.m.
